How to flourish in a proces of growth?
An introduction of the grow and flourish concept
The importance of growth
Meetings are most of the time based on growth. Questions like “What are the goals?” and “What’s the plan behind these goals?” are an other way of saying; “Where do we as an organisation grow towards?” and “How do we make sure that we grow in accordance with the plans made?”
These types of questions are important for the development of the company. Without growth, a company can’t be sustainable nor be profitable.
However, we strongly believe that growth isn’t everything. Growth takes a lot of energy and what’s the point of all this growth, if there’s no flourishing that follows all the hard work? Without it there is no time to replenish your energy. So, that is why we work with the Grow and Flourish Concept. In nature growing and flourishing are always in balance and alternate each other. We believe in business this should be the same and that by doing so, you will be only more successful!
So how do we alternate growing with flourishing?
Flourishing is about celebrating the goals that are accomplished as well as a way of bringing everyone in the company closer together. Flourishing gives and stores energy. We as Orange Pearl flourish in various ways.
Taking the meetings as an example. Every quarter we have a meeting with all our companies to showcase where they stand in relation to their annual objectives and what they will focus on in the coming quarter to eventually grow towards the goals set for that year. The subjects we discuss are almost always based on growth. These meetings are important and intensive, but we don’t want our collegues to come out of the meeting feeling drained from energy. We want them to feel motivated and ready for the new quarter! That’s why we make sure that we always implement a fun and excited flourishing touch to our meetings. There are lots of ways to do this.
Like with our last meeting we all made our own terrarium. The workshop was given by the local plant shop Groene Vingers from Delft. They showed us how to make a self-sustaining terrarium in which our plants could grow and flourish. How suitable, right? Making these terariums and working with our hands brought everyone closer together and balanced the intensity of the meeting. This also makes looking back at the meeting more memorable and a lot more fun.
Other ways we have added a flourishing touch to our meetings, was by doing a variety of other activities, like sport events, playing various games on a beach or cooking a meal together.
The results
Working with the grow and flourish concept isn’t just for the fun of it. It’s also a way to get to know everyone in the company better. It’s like a teambuilding day; but not just once a year. It helps with the wellbeing of the employees and getting and keeping everybody motivated and involved. It doesn’t just impact the meeting, it impacts the way of working all together.
